What is diabetes?

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is not just a human disease. This disease occurs in your pets, dogs and cats. Dogs and cats with diabetes gradually lose their ability to produce insulin. As insulin levels drop, the dog’s body is unable to absorb glucose. Simply put, the sugar needed to support cell function is circulating through the dog’s bloodstream, but the cells are starving.

It manifests itself in the following 3 common symptoms. It includes:

  1. Frequent urination.
  2. Drink regularly. Frequent urination causes the dog to become dehydrated, so drink water regularly.
  3. Constant hunger and begging for food. The cells transmit their glucose needs to the brain, resulting in a constant increase in appetite.

If these symptoms appear in your beloved animal, you should immediately consult a veterinarian. Constantly high blood sugar levels are harmful to dogs. If diabetes is not treated, the disease will progress. This convulsion can lead to coma and death. Diabetes requires lifelong treatment, and the owner and even the entire family must adapt.

What you can control is that you can catch this disease early by taking your dog for regular vet check-ups.
